100 Softball Team Names Plus Slogans and Jersey Ideas by League
April 24, 2026 · 7 min read
A Tuesday night slowpitch team and a 14U fastpitch travel team need very different names. One wants a laugh from the other dugout; the other wants something a college coach can read on a scoreboard without wincing.
So the 100 names below are sorted by league: adult slowpitch, coed, fastpitch, youth rec, church and corporate. After the names come slogans, jersey nicknames, the number rules high school teams play under, and what to know about jersey styles before you order.

Jersey Nicknames and Number Rules

A nickname on the back should be something the player is happy to wear all season. Keep them about strengths, not mistakes, especially on youth teams:
| Nickname | Who It's For |
|---|---|
| "The Wall" | Your most reliable fielder |
| "Moonshot" | The power hitter |
| "Wheels" | Fastest runner on the team |
| "The Closer" | The pitcher who finishes games |
| "Diamond" | The player who shows up polished every game |
| "Cannon" | The strongest arm in the outfield |
What the Rules Say About Numbers
High school softball follows the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) uniform rules. Per the NFHS softball uniform guide:
- Every player needs a number on the back of the jersey, at least 6 inches high.
- The number must be a solid color that contrasts with the shirt, with a border no wider than 1/4 inch.
- No two players on a team can wear the same number, and 0 and 00 count as the same number.
- Each uniform piece may carry only one manufacturer logo, no larger than 2 1/4 square inches.
Rec and travel leagues set their own rules, so check with your league before ordering, but building to the high school standard keeps jerseys legal almost anywhere. As for which number to pick, #42 is a respectful choice with history behind it: Major League Baseball retired it across every team in honor of Jackie Robinson on April 15, 1997 (National Baseball Hall of Fame).
Softball Jersey Styles and How They Are Decorated

- Two-button henley: the rec league standard. Easy to pull on, and the open front leaves a clean chest for a team name.
- Full-button jersey (often pinstriped): the classic ballpark look favored by travel and high school teams. The placket splits the chest, so names usually arc across or sit on one side.
- Crew-neck or V-neck performance tee: the budget option for slowpitch and youth rec, and the easiest to screen print.
- Sublimation dyes the whole design into polyester fabric, so stripes, gradients and sleeve graphics cost no more than a plain print and cannot peel.
- Screen printing suits one or two colors on cotton or poly tees in larger quantities.
- Heat-applied vinyl is how most teams add individual names and numbers, since each jersey is different.
- Tackle twill (stitched fabric letters) is the premium look for full-button game jerseys.
Fastpitch teams often want a women's cut while coed and men's teams use unisex sizing, so collect sizes per player and confirm the size chart before ordering. RELYmedia prints custom athletic jerseys for softball teams, with up to 50% off website prices.

Frequently asked questions
What are good coed softball team names?
Names that suit a mixed lineup, such as Mixed Signals, The Alternators, Equal Swing Opportunity and Boys and Girls of Summer. Many coed leagues require the batting order to alternate men and women, which is where several of these come from.
What are funny softball team names that are still clean?
Bat Intentions, No Bunt Intended, The Error Bunch, The Mercy Rules and Lawn Chair Legends all get a laugh without anything the league office will ask you to change.
How big do softball jersey numbers need to be?
Under the NFHS high school rules, every player needs a back number at least 6 inches high in a solid color that contrasts with the jersey, with a border no wider than 1/4 inch. Rec and travel leagues set their own rules, so check yours.
Can two softball players wear 0 and 00?
Not on a high school team. The NFHS rules treat 0 and 00 as the same number, and no two players on a team may wear identical numbers.
What is the best way to print softball jerseys?
Sublimation suits full-color polyester jerseys with stripes or sleeve graphics, screen printing suits one- or two-color tees in larger runs, heat-applied vinyl handles individual names and numbers, and tackle twill gives full-button game jerseys a stitched look.
Can we use a college or pro team name for our softball team?
Not on printed jerseys without permission. Names and logos owned by teams belong to their owners, so use them as inspiration and create your own name and design.
