Soccer has its own naming traditions: FC, United, Athletic, Real. Bolt one of those onto a joke and you instantly sound like a club, which is why rec soccer names are some of the best in any sport.

Here are 78 soccer team names sorted by team type: funny adult rec, online and fantasy clubs, cool competitive names, girls’ and women’s, youth, and 3v3 or indoor. Below the lists you will find what the Laws of the Game actually require from a kit and how to check that a youth club name is free.

Funny Soccer Team Names

Adult rec soccer runs on self-awareness. Most of these joke about the parts of the game every Sunday player knows: offside, own goals and the slide tackle you feel for three days.

Online club and fantasy soccer names

For fantasy leagues and online pro-club squads, where nobody will ever print the name, you can lean harder into gaming jokes.

• Transfer Window Shopping
• The Rotation Victims
• Skill Issue FC
• Lag FC
• Sweaty 442
• Pay-to-Win United

Cool Soccer Team Names for Competitive Clubs

Competitive teams want a name that looks right on a crest. Pairing an animal or a place with a club suffix (FC, United, Athletic) does most of the work.

• Spitting Cobras
• Red Dragons
• Sharktooth Shooters
• Velociraptors
• Black Pack
• Eclipse United
• Cobalt FC
• Apex Eleven
• Meridian FC
• Crestview Athletic
• Northern Wolves
• Iron Wall FC
• Rapid Strike
• Blue Lazers
• Hilldogs
• Storm Collective
• En Fuego CF

Real clubs and their nicknames are not up for grabs. Names and logos owned by teams, brands or people cannot be printed without the owner’s permission, so use these as inspiration and make the final design your own. The same goes for player names, so a pun on a famous striker belongs in a group chat, not on a printed kit.

Girls’ and Women’s Soccer Team Names

These work from U8 programs through adult women’s leagues. Let the players vote, since a name they chose is a name they will wear proudly.

Youth Soccer Team Names

Young players love animal names, and the sillier the better. Every name here is clean enough for any youth program.

• Charging Capybaras
• Rabid Penguins
• Confused Flamingos
• The Sloths
• Little Strikers
• Tiny Titans
• Dribble Dragons
• Super Kickers
• Sunshine Strikers
• Crows FC
• Junior Jaguars

3v3 and Indoor Soccer Team Names

Small-sided and indoor games are faster and tighter, and the names can be a little cockier.

• The Trident
• Hat Trick Heroes
• Triple Threat
• Three Blind Refs
• No Keeper No Problem
• Three’s a Crowd
• Concrete Kicks
• Turf Terrors
• Indoor Outlaws
• Enclosed Chaos FC
• Bouncebacks
• Net Burners
• Small Sided, Big Ego

What the Laws of the Game Say About Your Kit

Before you pick colors, it helps to know what referees actually check. Law 4 of the IFAB Laws of the Game sets the basics that most leagues follow:

• Compulsory kit: a shirt with sleeves, shorts, socks, shinguards and footwear. Sleeveless jerseys are out for official matches.
• Team colors: the two teams must wear colors that distinguish them from each other and from the match officials. If your league has a set home color, ask what it is before you order.
• Goalkeeper: each goalkeeper must wear colors that stand out from the other players and the officials, so order a separate keeper jersey, and a second one if two players share the job.

Youth clubs usually register their team name through a state association, which may have its own uniform and naming rules. US Youth Soccer lists every state association under its State Sites menu, so check yours before the name goes on 15 shirts.

Ordering Soccer Kits for Your Team

• Sublimated or printed: sublimation dyes the whole design into polyester, so stripes, gradients and sponsor logos cost the same as a plain shirt. Screen printing suits a simple crest and numbers on a solid jersey.
• Numbers and names: put numbers on the back at minimum. Names above the numbers are optional and make the kit feel like a club.
• Order the whole kit together: shirts, shorts and socks from the same order keep the colors matched.
