Wooden Pencils

The classic hexagonal No. 2 wooden pencil with a pink eraser is the standard and the lowest priced. Round pencils and triangular pencils for young hands are the alternatives. Barrels come in natural wood, yellow and dozens of painted colors, and the imprint is a one-color foil or ink along the barrel. Pre-sharpened pencils save a step for schools and events. Order them by the gross for a classroom or a conference.

Mechanical Pencils

A mechanical pencil never needs sharpening and suits offices, engineers and students. Plastic mechanical pencils with a 0.7 mm lead are the economical choice, and brass and metal mechanical pencils with a gift box are the executive version. Many pair with a matching pen in a set.

Colored Pencils

Colored pencil sets of six to twelve in a printed box, tube or ruler box are the favorite for schools, kids events, restaurants and museums. The box carries the logo in full color and the pencils inside are standard colors. Small sets of four to six fit a kids menu or a goody bag.

Golf, Carpenter and Specialty Pencils

Golf pencils are 3.5 inches with no eraser and are ordered by the thousand for scorecards and voting. Carpenter pencils are flat so they do not roll off a beam and print a contractor's logo for the hardware counter. Custom carpenter pencils are sold in bulk and used on job sites every day. Mood pencils change color with the heat of the hand, and bendable pencils and pencil-shaped erasers are fun for kids. Sharpeners and erasers with a logo complete a school kit. Custom construction pencils are the same flat pencil under another name, and builders and hardware stores order them.

Imprint and Ordering

The imprint runs along the barrel in an area about 2 inches long and a quarter inch tall, so a school name, a phone number or a short slogan reads best. Foil imprints in gold and silver suit dark barrels, and ink imprints suit natural and light barrels. Pencils are sold by the gross and the dozen, and the price per pencil drops at each quantity break, so a school year's supply is cheaper per piece than a single event order. Custom made pencils are imprinted to order, so check the spelling on the proof before production.
